More Than Dozen Accidents on I-78 and 287 in Bernards Area

State police out cleaning up, but traffic is not blocked.

State police in Somerville said troopers were out on I-78 and Route 287 responding to about 14 to 15 accidentsin the Bernards Township area between about 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, as snow and an icy hail continued to fall on roads.

A two-car accident at about 1 p.m. on I-78 westbound at milepost 28, just west of the intersection with Route 287, resulted in no major injuries, according to state police. He said a trooper was at the scene after 2 p.m., but traffic was flowing smoothly.

A bypasser said that a car was on the median in that mishap.

The Basking Ridge Fire Co. was seen heading to a crash on Route 287 northbound at milepost 25.5 at about 1:30 p.m.

Another car had skidded off the road at mile marker 28.6 on Route 297 southbound shortly after.

State police said they did not have any other details on specific accidents as of shortly after 2 p.m. Friday.
