Mt. Airy Road Reopened for Wednesday AM Traffic

Section of road north of Bernards Avenue in Bernardsville was closed for almost 17 hours on Tuesday following early morning crash.

A section of Mount Airy Road, Somerset County Route 525, just south of Olcott Square in Bernardsville again is open on Wednesday morning following and kept the road closed into nighttime hours.

Bernardsville police had initially estimated the road would be blocked, and traffic detoured, until about 6 p.m. However, the road ultimately remained closed until about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, police reported on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday afternoon, the road was still closed off while utility crews were placing a new utility pole alongside a cracked pole on the northbound section of the road. A utility worker at the site said the crew at that time was considerating whether to remove the cracked pole or shore it up.
