Overturned Truck Closes Mount Airy Road For Hours

Road reopened now after late morning accident at intersection of Mount Airy and Valley roads.

Mount Airy Road is reopened following at 11:12 a.m. accident at the intersection of Mount Airy and Valley roads.  Preliminary reports indicate that a box truck heading north on Mount Airy Road collided with a passenger car heading west through the intersection with Valley Road, police said.

Police said the box truck then overturned as a result of the collision, and the driver of the truck required extricated from the vehicle by the Liberty Corner Fire Company. Police said the driver suffered a leg injury. That driver was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Liberty Corner First Aid Squad, along with a man and woman who had been in the passenger car, police reported.

The occupants of the car were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, with no specific injuries reported, police said.

The road remained closed to traffic for more than two hours, reopening before 2 p.m. Somerset Hills Towing from Bernardsville was at the scene to remove the truck from the intersection. Police detoured traffic from the intersection onto Hessian Street or Lyons Road.
