Police Report: Second Stolen Car Recovered By Bernards Police Over July 4 Weekend

With less fanfare than a chase and capture, Bernards Police located a recovered a second stolen vehicle on the Fourth of July.

Bernards Township Police recovered a second stolen vehicle on July 4, according a police report released on Tuesday, July 6 – the second occurring in less dramatic fashion.

On July 4 at 3:45 p.m. Bernards Officer Chris Baxter observed a 2010 Toyota wagon parked just off a dirt roadway south of the Dewy Meadow shopping center.

Baxter ran a DMV look up on the license plate and discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Raritan Township earlier that day.

The Raritan Township Police Department confirmed that the vehicle was stolen out of their jurisdiction.

Detective Jon Burger of the Bernards Police processed the vehicle for forensic evidence, and Hinelines Towing of Flemington removed the vehicle from the scene.

The vehicle was the second stolen car recovered on the same day in a similar location, although the two incidents are believed to be unrelated.

The first stolen vehicle was recovered after Bernards Police assisted in car chase through Long Hill Township and into Bernards, which ended abruptly when the driver hit a tree near Dewy Meadows. As recounted in a previous article, the driver then tried to get away on foot before being apprehended by local police.
