Police Reports: Three Home Break-Ins and Theft at YMCA

Bernards police believe the two homes burglaries to be related.

Bernards Township Police reports released on Tuesday, August 4, indicate two residential burglaries, an attempted burglary and theft over the last two weeks. The first two burglaries, occurring on Friday, July 23, are though to be related and a police investigation is ongoing.

Suspects have yet to be arrested in any of the cases, while Bernards police continue to investigate.

Residential Burglary

Between 7:30 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. on Friday, July 23 a residence was burglarized on Chelsea Court. Entry was made by forcing open an attached garage rear door. Footprints leading into the house from the garage suggest one person entered the residence. The actor focused on and ransacked the master bedroom. Exit from the residence appears to be from a kitchen patio door that was found open. Various items of jewelry were taken from the master bedroom. An exact list of the jewelry and its value is not available at this time.

Residential Burglary

Same dates and times as above and also on Chelsea Court Home owner found that the front door had been kicked in and that the alarm system was dismantled. Wires to the alarm system on the outside of the house were cut; the battery in the alarm panel in the basement had been pulled out. Footprints were observed in the basement rug leading to the alarm panel. Nothing of value was reported missing because the house was for sale and did not contain any items of value. The Bernards police believe the two burglaries are related.

Theft

A Douglas Road Far Hills resident reported a theft of money from his wallet. The theft occurred on Tuesday, July 27 between 5:45 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. The victim reported that he left his wallet in an unlocked locker in the men's locker-room at the YMCA on Mt. Airy Road. The victim stated that $175 was taken but other items in the wallet were not. Detectives will be reviewing entrance logs and videotapes from the YMCA as part of the investigation.

Attempted Burglary

On August 2 at 10: 20 a.m., the police responded to a burglar alarm on Talmadge Court. Upon arrival, Officers noticed fresh tool marks on a side entrance door to the residence. Woodchips and splinters were also observed on the floor at the base of the door. The homeowner arrived home a short time later and confirmed that entry into the residence was not successful and that nothing was missing from the residence. The residence is equipped with an audible alarm and it is believed that the audible alarm scared off the burglar.
