Reward Offered in Holy Cross Mausoleum Vandalism

Granite vault panels removed and damaged at cemetery on Mount Airy Road last week.

A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered as the investigation continues into the vandalism of a Bernards Township mausoleum.

Several granite vault panels were damaged and removed from an outdoor mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery at 130 Mount Airy Road during the overnight hours between Jan. 15 and 16, according to a statement released Friday by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and Bernards Township Police Chief Brian Bobowicz.

The criminal mischief at Holy Cross Cemetery included damage to approximately 20 individual granite panels pried from their mounting positions between the hours of 3:42 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, and 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16 with an initial damage estimate of between $1,000 to $8,000, the chief said later.

Additionally, there was some minimal damage to some of the bronze name plates, Bobowicz said. He said the Bernards Township police detective division is investigating with the assistance of the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

Crime Stoppers of Somerset County is offering the reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.
