UPDATED: Route 78 Back-Up After Truck Fire

State police report that burned truck is cleared, although traffic jam-up continued for hours.

Updated information for this story is that the accident scene was cleared out between about 7:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, state police said.

State Police in Somerville said at about 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday that a tow truck that had caught fire near exit 33 on Interstate 78 westbound in Basking Ridge was expected to be removed soon from the highway. Nevertheless, traffic was backed up for several miles, reportedly as far as exit 41 in Union County, at that point.

The truck fire at milepost 33.2 had been reported shortly before 5 p.m., state police said.

No one was injured in the mishap, according to state police.
