State and Local Police: Stay Off Roads If Possible

Dozens of accidents during Saturday storm.

State police in Somerville said they were expecting the interstate highways to remain slippery into early Sunday morning, as the state continued to remove downed debris from roadways late Saturday night.

A down tree closed the right and center lanes on Interstate 287 southbound at mile-marker 30 in Bernards Township at about 11 p.m., state police said.

Dozens of accidents were reported all day in the Somerville barracks' coverage area, which includes interstates 78 and 287 north through the Bernards Township/Bernardsville area.
