String of Commercial Burglaries Prompts Ongoing Police Investigation

Two burglaries in the last week of businesses in Bernards are believed to be related.

Two commercial burglaries in the last week are believed to be related, prompting an ongoing investigation by Bernards Township Police.

In a police report issued on Tuesday, July 6, Bernards Police said that two office buildings on Mt. Airy Road were targeted for forced entry burglaries between 4 p.m. on June 29 and 9:30 a.m. on June 30.

An unknown actor or actors attempted to make entry into the office building at 222 Mt. Airy Road by prying the rear door open, according to the police report. Damage was also done to the card swiper that is adjacent to the rear door. The police said it did not appear that entry was gained and nothing was reported missing.

Presumed to be shortly after the first attempted break in, an office building at 188 Mt. Airy Road was entered forcibly by prying open a door on the south side, according to police reports. Taken from the building was a laptop computer that is valued at $400.

Lt. Edward Reese of the Bernards Police said, "It is believed that these two burglaries are related and an investigation is continuing."

A separate incident, believed to be unrelated to the first two, occurred on Saturday, July 3 between 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 3 and 4 p.m. Sunday, July 4, when an unknown actor(s) gained entry into Tsuru Restaurant at 413 King George Road. The actor(s) entered by smashing through the glass on the front door. Missing from the restaurant is $500 from the cash register and a change box containing $450.
