Theft From Purse Reported at Dunkin Donuts

Police say man charged with theft of $400 from purse left at Dunkin Donuts in The Hills.

Township police say a 20-year-old resident of Landing, Kenneth Lanier, faces a charge of theft as a result of a reported theft of money taken from a purse left on the day after Thanksgiving at the Dunkin Donuts in The Hills.

According to police, the department received a report on Saturday, Nov. 26, that a 73-year-old woman from Bedminster had accidentally left her purse at the Dunkin Donuts, located off Allen Road on the previous day, Friday.

The woman said she contacted the Dunkin Donuts later in the day and was told by an employee that a purse had been found in the shop, according to police. The woman told police that she had later returned to the store and found that $400 was missing from the purse, the police report stated.

Police said an investigation was conducted, and an individual was identified as a suspect by reviewing in store security video. That suspect, Kenneth Lanier, later was charged in Bernards Township Municipal Court with theft as a result of the investigation, according to the police report.
