Police: Driver Tried to Flee After Clocked at 100 MPH

25-year-old allegedly headed off I-287 and tried to escape on side streets off Mount Airy Road.

A 25-year-old Hillsborough man was charged with eluding police and related driving violations after police allege he was clocked traveling at about 100 miles per hour on Interstate 287 North over the weekend.

Township police said Police Sgt. Scott Ward had spotted the car, driven by Jeffrey Scott, 25, of Hillsborough, allegedly traveling at 100 miles per hour on I-287, just south of the Mount Airy Road exit 26 Saturday at about 2:10 p.m.

According to police, Ward attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly exited the highway at exit 26A onto Mount Airy Road. Prior to exiting the highway, Scott drove the vehicle from the left lane to the exit lane in an abrupt manner, police said.

Ward reported that he observed the driver turn from Mount Airy Road onto a side road, Concord Lane, and then onto Queen Anne Drive. The officer observed that the vehicle was being driven in an aggressive manner and the driver was accelerating while making the turns off Mount Airy Road, according to the police report.

Ward eventually was successful in stopping the vehicle on Queen Anne Drive, police said. The officer approached the driver and placed him under arrest a short time later, according to police.

Police report that the vehicle was towed from the scene. Scott was transported to headquarters, and processed on charges of third-degree eluding police, careless driving and speeding, according to township police.
