Warren Man Dies After Friday Accident

Accident near Bernards border results in fatal injuries, police say.

Update: Warren resident Steven Treich, 54, died Friday after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving on Liberty Corner Road, hitting a tree and overturning at 5:14 p.m.

Initial reports placed the accident at Liberty Corner and Mountainview roads.

First responders from Warren and Watchung fire departments, the Warren First Aid Squad and Somerset Medical Center's Mobile Intensive Care Unit responded to the scene, where Treich was unresponsive and trapped inside the vehicle. After he was extricated, he was flown to SMC by Medivac helicopter from a landing site at the Pingry School, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Original story: The confirmed on Friday evening that a motor vehicle was involved in an accident near the Bernards Township border, but declined to release any further details regarding the crash.

Police were contacted around 5:30 p.m. and told Patch while there was an accident, it is still too early to release details.

Bernards Township Police declined to share information about the accident when contacted by Patch, saying the accident was outside of their jurisdiction. Warren police initially confirmed the accident scene was in the area of The Pingry School on Martinsville Road.
