Water Main Break Affects About 1,000 Customers in Bernards Township

Water main break reportedly occurred on Valley Road on Sunday morning.

A water main break reported by New Jersey American Water Co. at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning has affected many areas of Bernards Township, with reports coming in everywhere from Fellowship Village retirement home to the Somerset Hills YMCA's Riverwalk facility, which closed as of 11 a.m.

Later on Sunday morning, at about 10 a.m., New Jersey American Water Company reported the water main breakage near the center Liberty Corner. The break occurred on Valley Road, near the English farm, according to one township report.

The disruption is affecting approximately 1,000 customers in Bernards Township who are without water, or who have very little water pressure, according to information from the water company. The rupture was located and crews have been on scene assessing the damage, according to the release from the water company.

Power expected to be restored in afternoon

At that time, the water company was projecting water service to be restored to most customers within five hours. Refer to NJAW customer service for further updates.

The Bernards Township Office of Emergency Management made a "Swiftreach" notification this morning to all township residents advising of the issue, according to OEM coordinator Mike Shimsky. Residents should consult the NJAW website or customer service for additional information, according to the township.

It is unclear at this time whether a water boil advisory will be issued, Shimsky said.
