2010 Township Committee Set at Reorganization Meeting

Carolyn Gaziano and John Malay were sworn into office to join Mayor Scott Spitzer and Township Committee members Mary Pavlini and John Carpenter.

The members of the 2010 Township Committee were officially set on Monday at the 2010 Bernards Township Committee reorganization meeting.

John Malay and Carolyn Gaziano took the oath of office to begin their three-year terms at the start of the meeting. The Township Committee also elected Malay as deputy mayor for 2010.

Gaziano begins her first-term on the Township Committee, serving most recently as a member of the Planning Board prior to her new post.

Gaziano began serving as a public official in Bernards as a member of the Environmental Commission in 1999, a position she held until 2003. She served on the zoning board the following two years before moving to the Planning Board in 2006. She also served one year on the Sewerage Authority and Quarry Mediation Team in 2009.

"I am honored to have been elected to the Township Committee this year by the people of Bernards Township and I look forward to serving you," Gaziano said at the reorganization meeting.

Malay begins his third consecutive term on the Township Committee, joining the committee in 2004. With the departure of former Mayor Carolyn Kelly this year, Malay became the most senior member on the Township Committee.

The deputy mayor began serving Bernards in 1996, also as a member of the Environmental Commission. Malay has since served on a number of committees and town boards and was previously mayor of Bernards Township in 2006.

Mayor Scott Spitzer and Township Committee members Mary Pavlini and John Carpenter round out the five-person team in 2010.
