Denise Szabo selected as secretary of 800-member Municipal Clerks Association of N.J.

Denise Szabo, for Bernards Township, has been appointed as secretary of the Municipal Clerks Association of New Jersey, it was announced at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting.

Szabo, Bernards Township clerk since 1996, said she had applied for a vacancy in the position of secretary of the 794-member organization. Once appointed, she said the officers in the association generally move up to eventually become president.

Szabo said the goal of the association is to promote professionalism, provide education and to promote uniformity in procedures in the state's municipalities. The association is made up of municipal clerks, deputy clerks and some county clerks from throughout the state, she said.

The mission of the MCANJ also is to provide training for municipal clerks and to promote a better understanding of the official duties and obligations of its members, she added later.
