Proposed Mosque Views By Twp. Committee Candidates [VIDEO]

Liberty Corner religious center was one of the issues discussed at a Bernards Township Committee candidates forum.

Bernards Township Committee candidates Carolyn Gaziano and John Malay, both Republican incumbents, and Democratic challengers David Ferdinand and Michael Komondy answer a public forum question about their opinion on a proposed mosque in Liberty Corner.

The forum was held at Ridge High School on Oct. 18, hosted by the Ridge Empowerment for Political Participation Club, and moderated by Terri Thompson of the League of Women Voters of Somerset County.

The third public hearing on the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge's proposed mosque on Church Street in Liberty Corner is due to come before the township Planning Board at some point during the 7:30 p.m. meeting scheduled for Thursday night.

The four candidates are competing this November for two three-year seats on the Bernards Township Committee. The five-member committee currently is all Republican.
