Deadline Jan. 13 for First Bernards Community Art Show

Local artists invited to showcase work this February at the Environmental Education Center in Basking Ridge.

Bernards Township artists are sought to showcase their talents at the township First Annual Community Art show, to be held this coming February. 

Township residents ages 18 and older who wish to participate who wish to participate must submit an entry form for the non-juried show by Jan. 13. The exhibit will be on display the following month at the Somerset County in Basking Ridge.

The entry form is available online at the Bernards Township website.

Over the past year, the Recreation, Parks & Pathways Advisory Committee has initiated the addition of many cultural arts events to the department’s programming schedule, including the Mayor’s Arts Awards and an amateur photography competition, according to information from the parks & recreation department. Township officials have said they hope the Community Art Show will become an annual event residents look forward to each year, providing an opportunity to showcase local talent.

Artwork may include, but is not limited to, watercolors, oils, acrylics, photography, pastels, drawings, mixed media and sculpture. Artwork must be framed and ready for hanging, and artists must provide their own stand for 3D artwork.The $20 entry fee includes a maximum of two pieces per artist, according to the department.

If space permits, artists may be permitted to submit up to four pieces.

All artists are welcome, both professionals and budding artists, and artwork need not be listed for sale. Space is limited so artists are encouraged to submit an entry form as soon as possible.

The 2012 Mayor’s Arts Awards also will be announced at the Art Show Opening Reception scheduled for February 5, 2012. Nominations for the individual and organization awards are being accepted through Friday, Jan. 6. The Mayor’s Arts Awards, first established in 2011, honors those demonstrating leadership and dedication to the fine and performing arts in Bernards Township.
