GOP Twp. Committee Candidates to Kick off Campaign at 10 a.m. on Saturday

Event to be held at downtown gazebo.

Republican incumbents Mary Pavlini and John Carpenter, who are seeking re-election for Bernards Township Committee, have scheduled an official campaign kick-off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the Allen Street gazebo in downtown Basking Ridge.

Deputy Mayor Pavlini and Township Committeeman Carpenter were last month officially by the Bernards Township Republican Municipal Committee. The candidates said they would be be pleased to represent the Republican Municipal Committee and the local Republican party for the June primary election for two available seats on the primary election.

An announcement from township Republicans said Saturday will mark the first event of the campaign. Pavlini and Carpenter and other Republican candidates seeking office in Somerset County will greet residents.

State Senator Christopher "Kip" Bateman, state Assemblyman Pete Biondi and Assemblywoman Denise Coyle, all of the 16th district, and Somerset County Freeholders Peter Palmer, Pat Walsh, and Bob Zaborowski are expected to attend.  Other invited guests include U.S. Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen, 11th district, and other county representatives.

If re-elected, both Pavlini and Carpenter would be serving a third term in office. Each candidate previously served as Mayor, Pavlini in 2007 and Carpenter in 2008.

Township Committeeman Scott Spitzer, co-chairman of the campaign, said, “Mary and John have deep experience and a solid record of keeping our town fiscally responsible and very well run. They deserve re-election and this campaign kick-off is a great beginning for their 2011 campaign.”
