JCP&L President, BPU Expected in Bernards

Updated: Meeting with Board of Public Utilities now scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. next Monday at the William Annin Middle School.

The president of Jersey Central Power & Light and members of the Board of Public Utilities will appear in Bernards Township at a public meeting next Monday to discuss the utility's response to Superstorm Sandy, Township Committee Member John Malay said Tuesday night.

The state Board of Public Utilities issued a notice that the meeting to meeting to solicit public comment on JCP&L's preparedness and responsiveness before, during and after Hurricane Sandy will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the auditorium in the William Annin Middle School, 70 Quincy Road, Basking Ridge.

The notice said additional hearings would be scheduled in December and later in 2013.

to discuss the continuing issue of Ridge High School Traffic jam-ups.

The public is invited to the first meeting as well as the second, Malay said.

Legislators representing Bernards Township likely will be invited to hear Lynch, Malay said.

Last week, Bernards Township Committee thanked the many first responders, whether volunteers or professionals, who were on the ground tackling emergencies and lobbying for power restoration and road clearings in the days after Superstorm Sandy hit on Oct. 29.

But the words weren't so kind for others, including Jersey Central Power and Light.

Township Committeeman Scott Spitzer was among those who had criticized the power company's response.

Virtually all township residents were rendered without power the first day the storm struck and the last received their power back two weeks later.
