Jets GM Invited to Ridge Football Homecoming

Tannenbaum, a new Bernards resident, could participate in opening coin toss ceremony.

A recently arrived township resident who knows a little about football, Michael Tannenbaum, general manager of the New York Jets, is expected to attend Friday night's Homecoming game between Ridge High School and Hillsborough High School at Lee Field.

Mayor Scott Spitzer said Wednesday he had invited Tannenbaum and his family to be his guests at the game, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The mayor said Tannenbaum, who recently relocated with his family to Bernards Township, could participate in the pre-game coin toss.

"I wanted to extend a warm Bernards welcome to the Tannenbaums and have them participate in and enjoy one of our township’s best family traditions," Spitzer said Wednesday. "The Bernards Township School District and high school administration was very supportive when I raised this with them."

He said the Tannenbaum family would be rooting for the local high school team on Friday night.

Spitzer said he would be happy to pay the Tannenbaum's admission, since the sports program needs every penny, and, he added, he just doesn't "want them to wait on line."
