July Programs at the Senior Wellness Center

Senior Wellness Center opens again on Tuesday with full slate of air-conditioned activities.

The July program schedule for the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services's senior centers, including the Senior Wellness Center in Basking Ridge, announce the summer program schedule.

All programs begin at 11 a.m. unless otherwise listed. Call for lunch reservations by 11 a.m. the day before you wish to come. For more information, contact the center at 908-204-3435.

The center is located is at 202 Mount Airy Road. Hours are 8:30 to 3:30, Monday through Friday. During the summer, senior citizens are invited to drop by the air-conditioned center to escape the heat.

Bridge — Every Monday, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; (New members welcome)

Duplicate Bridge — Every Tuesday, noon to 3 p.m.; (New members welcome)

Intermediate Computer Confidence — Every Friday, 10:30 p.m. (June 10 – July 15)

Computer Lab — Daily, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Call for availability)

Healthy Bones Class — Every Friday, 10:30 a.m.(Doctor note and Registration required)

Mahjong — Every Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pool Sharks — Pool table available daily, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Senior Flex Class (Upper & Lower Body exercise) — Every Monday and Thursday, 10:30 a.m.

July 4 holiday — Center closed

July 5 — Free blood pressure screenings by Laura Cummings, RN, BSN, Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills

July 6 — Taste a red, white & blue smoothie in the Spirit of Independence Day with Patriotic Karaoke

July 8 — “Student Essay Contest Winner:” Meet Alex Boughton of Basking Ridge and listen as he tells us how he has been influenced by older Americans.

July 12 — “Fruits & Vegetables: What’s in Season?, by Helen Vasko

July 13 — Free diabetes screenings by Morristown Memorial Hospital, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm (Call to make an appointment.)

July 15 — “Student Essay Contest Winner:” Meet Donna Andres of Basking Ridge and listen as she tells us her thoughts on the Fountain of Youth.

July 19 — “Financial Fraud: Protect your money against financial scams on the rise” by Debora Whipple, Bureau of Securities

July 20 — Mind Your Mind: Memory retrieval exercises

July 26 — “Love Your Kidneys: Know the Score,” by Ellen Yoshiuchi, National Kidney Foundation

July 27 — “The Benefits of Aqua Fitness,” by Karen Muha and Betty Epple, Somerset Hills YMCA

July 27 — Celebrate All July Birthdays!, 12:15 p.m.

July 29 — “Fall Prevention” by Beth Brown, physical therapist, Somerset Medical Center
