Thursday Library Program on Identifying Local Trees

See what's in your back yard — or get ready for next week's walking tour of trees in downtown Basking Ridge.

Enjoy nature walks and the trees in your backyard even more after exploring what's common in your neighborhood at the “Identifying Trees” program to be presented at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Bernards Township Library.

It's also a way to do your homework ahead for a scheduled walking tour of trees in downtown Basking Ridge, set for 3:30 p.m. next Wednesday, May 29.

At this free library program guests will learn a few simple tricks to identify common trees in Northern New Jersey at the Bernards Township Library with Environmental Consultant and Liberty Corner resident Jack Donohue.

Donohue will highlight the unique characteristics of leaves, branches, and bark of each tree through both photos and live samples.

Jack Donohue is a 22-year resident of Basking Ridge with a M.S. in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University, specializing in wetland delinations and environmental resource inventories. He is a former member of several Bernards Township committees, including The Green Team, Greenways, Great Swamp Watershed Management, and was Chairman of the Environmental Commission.  He currently leads local Environmental Education walks focusing on a topics such as the identification of trees, wildflowers, ferns, shrubs, and invasive species.
