Men's Softball League Begins at Age 40 in Basking Ridge

Tentative start date in April for township men who must be at least 40 by April 1.

Registration is underway for the Basking Ridge Men's Softball League, which is scheduled to run during the regular season on Sunday mornings between April and July.

Registration for the 6’ to 12’ arc pitch softball is limited to Bernards Township residents age 40 (by April 1) or older, and is on a first come, first served basis.

Tentative start date for play is for Sunday, April 22. All games will be played on Bernards Township fields, according to information from the league, which has information online on its website.

Regular season play will consist of up to 18 games and is scheduled to continue through the end of June. Each team is scheduled to play doubleheaders on  Sunday mornings. Single elimination play-offs have tentatively been scheduled to beg by July 8, and  a championship game tentatively scheduled for on July 15th.

All players must be residents of Bernards Township and a minimum of age 40 by April 1, 2012. Each new participant to BRMSL needs to submit a copy of their drivers license when registering. Previous participants to BRMSL do not need to submit another copy. It is recommended that teams have the maximum of 15 players on the roster to ensure at least 10 players every week.

Cost for the township program is $1,000 per team with uniforms, $700 per team without uniforms, and $100 per individual. Proof of residency is required, according to the Bernards Township parks and recreation department. Team registrations must be received by April 2, or a $10 late fee applies to all individual registrations received after that date.

Refunds, less a $10 administrative fee per registrant, will only be processed if requested on or before April 1, according to the recreation department.

Each team will receive regulation softballs, a catcher’s mask, scorebook, first aid kit and uniform (t-shirt & hat) if requested. Umpire fees are included in the registration cost.

However, the recreation department said participants must be registered before attending the softball program.

To register, participants are asked to complete a registration form and mail it with check made payable to “Bernards Township” to: Bernards Township Recreation “BRMSL,” 1 Collyer Lane, in Basking Ridge, 07920.
