New Year, New Mayor, Holiday Closings This Week

Back to school on Wednesday after a long holiday.

Even as we all get to pause for a final break for the New Year's holiday, the beginning of January is also a time to dive into the upcoming year.

Bernards Township municipal offices will be open for a regular day on Monday, Dec. 31, and will close on Jan. 1.

Bernards Township Committee to make appointments at annual reorganization

The Bernards Township Committee is scheduled to hold its 2013 reorganization meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the municipal building at 1 Collyer Lane.

At that meeting, the committee will appoint this year's mayor and deputy mayor, with 2012's deputy mayor, anticipated to be appointed as deputy mayor for 2013.

Gaziano and Township Committeeman John Malay, re-elected last November to the all-Republican Township Committee, are scheduled to be sworn into new three-year terms. Additional appointments are also scheduled to be made that night to municipal boards, committees and for other professional positions.

Library will be open part-day on Monday, New Year's Eve

The Bernards Township Library will remain open on Monday until 3 p.m., and will be closed on Tuesday, New Year's Day.

On Wednesday, the childrens' library will begin registration for its winter storytime programs and also for "Snuggle Up With a Good Book."

A full week of additional programs at the library are listed on the website.

Until Wednesday, Jan. 2, Bernards Township Schools will continue a winter break that began with early dismissal on Friday, Dec. 21. Students will be back in school for a regular day on Wednesday.
