Planning Board Chair, Others, End Service in 2010

Kenneth White, Chairman of the Bernards Township Planning Board, and several other township officials voluntarily resigned their posts at the end of 2009.

Mayor Carolyn Kelly was not the only public official to end her years of service for Bernards Township in 2009. The Township Committee passed resolutions recognizing seven other township officials for "outstanding service" at their closing meeting of 2009.

Kenneth White, Chairman of the Bernards Township Planning Board, was recognized following his announcement that due to conflicts with his job, he will no longer be able to serve on the board.

White succeeded former Planning Board Chair and 2010 Mayor Scott Spitzer in 2008, and has served on the board since his appointment in 2001.

White also served the town on the Open Space Advisory Committee, the Emergency Management Council, the Local Emergency Planning Committee, the Fire Prevention Bureau and the Flood Mitigation Planning Committee among others, and is a former member of the Liberty Corner Fire Company.

"It's been a pleasure to serve as the chairman of this board. It is something I know I will miss always and find fond to remember," White said at the last Planning Board meeting on Dec. 22. "I know that I will miss the collegial atmosphere that I have observed here during my tenure on the board. ... [And] I want to thank all of you for your support over the last year, and last several years to ensure that we represented the community with respect for everyone who appeared before the board."

Spitzer said at the same meeting, "I hardly remember a time when I served on this board when you weren't on it. ... Thank you on behalf of our board and on behalf of the Township Committee. You have done a great job."
