Republicans Launch Reelection Campaign for Township Committee

Incumbents John Malay and Carolyn Gaziano endorsed by Republican municipal committee on Monday.

Republican members Carolyn Gaziano and John Malay will officially launch their bid for additional terms with a "campaign kickoff" at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, at the Allen Street gazebo in downtown Basking Ridge.

Gaziano, this year's deputy mayor, and Township Committeeman John Malay were overwhelmingly endorsed for election by the Bernards Township Republican Municipal Committee on Monday evening, according to a Tuesday morning announcement from their campaign.

The candidates are seeking to be elected for additional three-year terms on the municipal governing body this November, Gaziano for what would be her second term, and Malay for a fourth term. Malay also had served as township mayor in 2006 and 2011.

The candidates, in the announcement, expressed appreciation for a strong endorsement from the Republican Municipal Committee and local Republican party, and noted this will be a very important Presidential election year.

The candidates said the March 31 public event, at which refreshments will be served, will be the first of many campaign events, and will provide an opportunity for Bernards Township residents to meet Gaziano, Malay and other Republican candidates. Other invited guests include U.S.Congressman Leonard Lance (R-District 7), Somerset County GOP Freeholder candidates Mark Caliguire and Patrick Scaglione, and representatives from District-21.

"Carolyn and John have unmatched experience and a solid track record of keeping our town fiscally sound and a wonderful place to live. They deserve re-election and this campaign kickoff is a great beginning for their 2012 campaign," said Township Committeeman John Carpenter, co-chairman of the campaign for Malay and Gaziano.

Last year's Republican candidates were opposed by two Democrats Bonnie Diehl and Michael Komondy, but were defeated by Carpenter and Mary Pavlini, now mayor, to maintain all-Republican membership on the Township Committee.
