Sen. Tom Kean To Address Basking Ridge Tea Party on Wed.

State senator who, if reelected, will begin representing Bernards as part of 21st district at end of this year expected to speak at Bernards Township Library.

The public is invited to attend a meeting of the Basking Ridge Tea Party, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. this Wedneday at the at which N.J. Sen. Tom Kean Jr. is expected to speak.

Kean, a Republican, represents the 21st legislative district in New Jersey, which Bernards Township will become part of as of 2012. Kean is seeking reelection to represent the district, which includes the communities of Basking Ridge, Long Hill Township, Berkeley Heights, Summit and others in central New Jersey.

The public will be given an opportunity to meet Kean during the Basking Ridge Tea Party's regular business meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting will be a third opportunity for the Tea Party group to hear and meet candidates who will be participating in the statewide elections this Nov. 8. The upcoming elections are a chance for the group to send its message of "Stop the Spending!" to elected officials, according to a news release issued by the Basking Ridge Tea Party.

On his Facebook page, Thomas Howard "Tom" Kean Jr., 43, quotes an online entry tht describes him as an American Republican politician, serving in the New Jersey State Senate since 2003. His legislative district covers parts of Union, Morris, Somerset and Essex Counties. On November 8, 2007 he was elected to serve as Minority Leader of the Senate.

Kean is the son of Thomas Kean, New Jersey governor from 1982 to 1990 and chairman of the 9/11 Commission following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The younger Kean grew up on the family's estate in Livingston.

Kean is a graduate of the Pingry School in Bernards Township, as well as Dartmouth College. He also holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where he is currently completing his doctoral dissertation in international relations, according to his posted information on his Facebook page.

The Basking Ridge Tea Party informed its members that a scheduled movie night set for Oct. 18 has been canceled.
