Senior Wellness Center Announces August Activities

Classes, health care information, summer fun.

The in Basking Ridge, one of the senior centers operated by the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services, has announced its August program schedule.

All programs begin at 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Please call for lunch reservations by 11 a.m. the day before you wish to come. For more information, contact the center or other centers throughout Somerset County operated by the Office on Aging.

Regular hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.


Bridge — Every Monday, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Duplicate Bridge — Every Tuesday, noon to 3 p.m.

Computer Lab — Daily, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Call for availability)

Mahjong — Every Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Pool Sharks — Pool table available daily, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Senior Flex Class (upper & lower body exercise) — Every Monday and Thursday, 10:30 a.m. (No Aug. 29 class; make up class is Aug. 30)

August 2 — “Summer Childhood Memories” with Helen Vasko, 10:45 a.m.

August 2 — Free Blood Pressure Screenings by Laura Cummings, RN, BSN, Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills, 10:30 a.m.

August 3 — Seashell Craft: Constructing Shell Garland, 10:45 a.m. (Seashell donations are welcome.)

August 5 & 19 — Bingo

August 9 — “Medication Management — Unraveling Health Care Reform & Medicare,” by Kelly Finnegan, Office on Aging & Disability Services, 10:45 a.m.

August 10 — “Self Defense Awareness” presented by Tim Franks, martial arts expert, and Hank Werner, Bernards Township Police Officer, 10:30 a.m.

August 12 — Hawaii Facts & Trivia to celebrate 52nd anniversary of becoming a state.

August 16 — Bone Density Screening by Morristown Memorial Hospital, 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Screenings are $10 per person to cover equipment expense and educational literature.  To register please call 1-800-247-9580.

August 17 — Soup & Salad to Order Day (choice of soup & salad toppings).

August 23 — Mind Your Mind exercises to strengthen word fluency, increase vocabulary and more, 10:45 a.m.

August 24 — “Over 90 & Loving It,”  an inspiring documentary of nonagenarians who live life to the fullest, 10:30 a.m.

August 26 — Walking Club, weather permitting

August 29 — Podiatry evaluations by Dr. Mary Anne Brazinski (Evaluations done by appointment only), 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 am

August 31 — “Everyday Injury Prevention: Tips on Preventing Injuries During Everyday Tasks,” by Kessler Rehabilitation Center, 10:45 a.m.

August 31 — Celebrate all August Birthdays!, 12:15 p.m.
