Township Meeting Canceled, Special Session Called

The township will likely appoint new labor counsel next week.

Summer schedules have necessitated shifting of meeting schedules for the Bernards Township Committee, which will call a special session next week and cancel their following meeting.

The regularly scheduled combined agenda and regular meeting for Tuesday, July 13 will be held as planned at 8 p.m. in Town Hall, but will not meet for their regularly scheduled July 27 meeting due to a lack of voting members available to attend.

The cancellation will push back the public hearings for three ordinances, including: new noise-related nuisance regulations, adding two students to the Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse team and appropriating just shy of $1.1 million for various capital expenditures. All of the proposals, previously reported on by Basking Ridge Patch, will be heard on August 10 at 8 p.m. in Town Hall.

The committee will also meet in a special session on Thursday, July 15 at 6:45 p.m. in Town Hall.

The previously unscheduled meeting will be held to interview candidates for the Township Labor Counsel position, according to Township Clerk Denise Szabo. Formal action may be taken.

Prior Township Labor Counsel Art Thibault of Apruzzese, McDermott, Mastro & Murphy was appointed in January 2010 for a 6-month term, which expired on June 30 this year.

"A special session is being held because we are eliminating the regular meeting of July 27 because of lack of quorum, and the next regular meeting would not be until August 10." Szabo said. "Due to timing and agenda scheduling, the committee felt it was prudent to schedule the special meeting."
