Traffic Light to Go in Early Next Year on Mt. Airy Rd. at Route 287 Exit

Signal would ease situation of traffic turning across road when exiting highway.

Initial installation work has begun on a new traffic signal at the end of the I-287 southbound ramp onto Mount Airy Road in Basking Ridge, but activation is not expected until early next year, said a state Department of Transportation spokesman.

The light cannot be turned on until completion of necessary underground utility location work, said Tim Greeley, DOT spokesman.

Greeley said the signal will operate on a standard two-phase operation, with Mount Airy Road being the main phase and the I-287 ramp being the actuated phase.
