Youth Week, Meetings Coming Up in Bernards Township

Youth Week to lead up to popular fishing derby at Southard Park.

This week is Youth Week in Bernards Township — even with the kids off from school, the Bernards Township Parks and Recreation Department has plenty of fun things planned.

And it all leads up to next Saturday's very popular annual fishing derby, to be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Southard Park off North Maple Ave. Kids of all ages get a chance to hook a big one.

Starting out Youth Week will be the bike decorations and parade around Harry Dunham Park off Somerville Road in Liberty Corner. Please enter off Liberty Corner Road, heading in the direction of Far Hills.

That event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, as will chalk drawing and window painting on Tuesday at Harry Dunham Park. And on Wednesday, kite flying is scheduled at Mountain Park off Mountain Road.

Also, note next Monday the rec. department will be open late, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., so photos can be taken for badges for the Pleasant Valley Pool or Coakley-Russo Memorial Golf Course.

But it's not all fun and games this week.

The Bernards Township Committee is scheduled to hold its regular meeting at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at town hall at 1 Collyer Lane.

The Bernards Planning Board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at town hall, to pick up where it left off in discussing a proposed mosque in Liberty Corner.

Also:

The Bernards Township Pool Commission is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at town hall.

The Beautification Task Force is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Monday at town hall.
