Bernards Ranked a 'Top Booming Suburb' in New Jersey

Survey places three Somerset County towns among the 'best places to live.'

Bernards was ranked as the second "Top Booming Suburb" in New Jersey in a new survey conducted by Coldwell Banker.

For a town to be classified as a "booming suburb," the real estate agency worked with Onboard Infomatics to take into account home ownership percentage, job availability, gas affordability, safety factors, cultural and outdoor activities, median disposable income and more.

Bernards came in the middle of the top-3 for the whole state, with Bridgewater and Hillsborough ranked first and third respectively. Other towns in the top-10 include Randolph, Roxbury, Rockaway, Mount Olive, Fort Lee and Mahwah.

The "Top Booming Suburbs" survey is part of the larger "Best Places to Live" survey, which includes more than 1,500 communities in the country.

"Bernards has a population of 26,599 and has shown 8.2 percent growth since 2000," according to survey results.

The data shows that out of 9,798 households in the township, 87 percent of homes are owned, 9.8 percent are rented and 3 percent are unoccupied. About 36 percent of homes in the township have been owned by the same person for at least five years and the median age of a home in Bernards is 15 years.

"Somerset County offers a desirable mix of quality suburban life and ease of commute to places of business across the tri-state area," said Hal Maxwell, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in New Jersey and Rockland County, NY. “We see a consistent influx of buyers looking to establish a home and lifestyle in Somerset County communities.”
