Somerset Hills Schools Closed Monday; Halloween Postponed in Bernardsville

And it is likely they will be closed Tuesday as well.

All Somerset Hills Schools and Bedminster Township School will be closed Monday because of a continued lack of power.

According to the Somerset Hills School District website, the schools in the district are still without power, and many roads are not passable for school buses at this time. The website says that it is likely the schools will also be closed Tuesday, but an update will be given by 5 p.m. Monday.

Bernardsville police chief announces Halloween has been postponed

Meanwhile Bernardsville Police Chief Kevin Valentine announced on Sunday afternoon that Halloween in the borough has been postponed until further notice, after power has been restored and streets are considered safe. However, many borough children had participated in "trunk or treat" with vehicles opening their trunks with candy late Saturday afternoon.

A Red Cross Shelter has been established at Bernards High School for those needing to recharge, shower, warm up or to seek a place to spend the night.

Bedminster schools closed, too

In addition, Bedminster Township School Superintendent Carolyn Koos sent out an alert that Bedminster Township School will remain closed Monday.

The determination for continued closures, she said, will be made on a day-by-day basis.
