Annin Moves Thursday Graduation to 'Cooler' RHS

Students graduating from the will this week find out a bit early what it's like to pick up a diploma at the high school — extreme heat has resulted in the middle school's annual end-of-year events moving to the air-conditioned auditorium at

The eighth grade graduation ceremony will still be held in three different sessions, at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday night — but it will be moved to the cooler Performing Arts Center at the high school off South Finley Avenue. The ceremony traditionally is held in the middle school auditorium, which can heat up progressively with each set of graduates.

The decision was made a few days ago with heat predicted for the end of this week, school officials said at Monday's meeting.

A middle school employee confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the move to the high school still is being planned. An end-of-year middle school dance also will be moved to high school, with a more extensive air conditioning system, to be held starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the middle school.
