New Jersey Monthly Magazine Rates Ridge High School as No. 12 in the State for 2010

Ranking among public high schools rises from no. 24 in 2008.

New Jersey Monthly magazine has rated Ridge High School as the 12th ranking public high school in the state for 2010, a jump up from a ranking of no. 24 in 2008, the last time rankings were released by the statewide publication.

The rankings were based on data obtained from the state Department of Education's School Report Card, according to criteria named in the New Jersey Monthly report. The data was from the 2008-09 school year, the report said.

New Jersey Monthly's report said the rankings also were based on school environment and the number of students who went on to higher education, as well as student performance.

Board of Education Member Audrey Cohen Sherwyn said she was pleased that the high school's ranking had risen since two years ago.

Despite the defeat of the proposed school budget for 2010-11 at the polls last spring, and cuts in state aid to the district, Sherwyn said, "We are going to do everything we can to continue high rankings. We have a wonderful administration and wonderful teachers."
