Only Two Bernards Schools Have Power on Monday

Students could attend school Nov. 8-9, days of canceled NJEA convention.

Bernards Schools Superintendent Nick Markarian said shortly after 6 p.m. Monday that only two of the district's schools, William Annin Middle School and the Liberty Corner Elementary School, had power at that time. School has been canceled for Tuesday.

Markarian said that he also is concerned about Wednesday's predicted storm.

School Board President Susan McGowan said that since the NJEA teachers convention was canceled we will have school November 8 and November if schools are operational by then.

All staff and students should plan to report to school on those dates if the schools are open by that time, she said.

McGowan confirmed that the school district's website is out of date and can not be updated due to the lack of power.

Residents and district personnel should use the Bernards Township website which has postings of critical information every three hours, she said. Parents also have been notified by telephone of the next day's school closing.
