Ridge Cheerleaders Launch Food Drive this Weekend, Will Continue Collection at Ridge vs. Lata Game

The Ridge High School Cheerleading Squad on Saturday kicked off its food drive with shifts of girls donating their time to collect nonperishable food and other items in front of Stop & Shop supermarket. The squad will continue its food drive with a collection at the gate for the Ridge vs. Immaculata varsity football game to be the televised season opener played at 7 p.m. next Friday, Sept. 10, at Ridge High School's Lee Field.

While the Ridge Red Devils and Immaculata's Spartans may be rivals, the Ridge cheerleaders are working in cooperation with cheerleaders from Immaculata High School in Somerville to support the Somerset County Food Bank. 

Ridge Squad members collected canned meats, fruits, soups, dried cereals and snack bars, baby food and formula, toiletries and other nonperishable items. Squad members volunteered their time between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in front of Stop & Shop Saturday on South Finley Avenue.

The food drive is just one of the activities the cheerleaders are planning in anticipation of the Ridge vs. Immaculata football game Friday. The game will be televised in HD on MSG Varsity television as the premier event of their new Friday night high school football programming.  All items collected by cheerleaders from Ridge and Immaculata High School will on Sept. 13 be turned over to the food bank, organizers said.
