Ridge Dominates Season Opener, 37-23

The boys basketball team defeated Warren Hills, Friday, in their first game of the season.

Ridge boys basketball knocked off Warren Hills Friday night with a 37-23 away victory. Nick Cefalo led the way with 11 points, seven assists and four steals, closely followed by teammate Rob McCarthy who had ten points with four rebounds.

Conor Skea governed the boards, bringing down eleven rebounds to go with nine points. Christian Frisoli completed the scoring with seven.

The Red Devils, who led 7-2 after the first, blew the game open in the second, scoring eight unanswered points, eventually outscoring Warren Hills 14-8 in the second quarter. Cefalo had five in the first half, including the play of the game in which he drove the lane, put up a diving lay-up while getting fouled.

Ridge closed the game down by the end of the third when Rob McCarthy drilled a long three from the corner giving the Devils a 31-16 lead going into the fourth quarter.

"I think we were a little rusty tonight," said Ridge head coach Mark Taylor, "we only shot 8 for 12 from the foul line, if you make foul shots it's a different game, we missed some wide-open shots, but that's going to come."

Stanley Ogedegbe led the Blue Streaks with eight points, including four free throws. With only one returning starter, Warren Hills depended on four former junior varsity players who weren't a match for the more experienced Ridge team.

"To me the difference in the game was that we couldn't make a shot and they made some big shots when they had to" said Warren Hills head coach Stan Kubbishan, who said he plans to work a lot more on offense this season.

Ridge will play in a holiday tournament tomorrow starting at 2 p.m. at Kean University, before their home opener on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
