Ridge Falls to Westfield, 33 – 41, Drops out of Len Sepanak Tournament

Early season ball control struggles with aggressive defenses hurt the Red Devils again.

Trouble with turnovers plagued the Ridge Lady Devils again as they fell behind from the start eventually losing 33 – 41 to the Westfield Blue Devils.

Alexis Irwin led the Red Devils with 12 points, Susan Galgano and Kelly Scott both had 6 points, while Misaki Ishii had a season low of 2 points.

On the other side, Amanda Warkowski led the Blue Devils with 14 points, Diana Venezia had 10 points while Danielle Miller and Katie Ponce both had 8 a piece.

Down by seven after the first quarter, Ridge dug themselves into a 9-point deficit by half-time. Defensive pressure by the Blue Devils forced Ridge into a second straight game with 20+ turnovers, including 15 in the first half alone.

After scoring only 10 points in the first half, Ridge went into the break down 19 –10. A deficit they could overcome in the second despite outscoring the Blue Devils by one in the second.

"We came out strong in the second half, we cleaned things up, but it's got to happen in the first half" said Head coach Cheryl Steppenbeck, "We got to start out strong, and not wait to the second half to try and make it up."

With this loss, Ridge falls out of the Len Sepanak tournament. They will Phillipsburg next on January 4.
