Ridge Traffic Report, Republican Candidate Screening Coming This Week

Results of a months-long task force review of options for improving morning traffic flow at Ridge High expected to go online Monday.

Two projects that have been in the works for months are expected to take another step forward this week. Meanwhile, the Republican Municipal Committee is due to interview and select a candidate for endorsement on Monday night.

The Ridge Traffic Task Force, appointed last fall, is expected to put a report online on Monday outlining its review of options for ways to alleviate morning traffic backups at Ridge High School.

The task force is expected to hold another public presentation at 7 p.m. the following Monday, March 25, in the courtroom at the Town Hall at 1 Collyer Lane, Bernards Schools Superintendent Nick Markarian said in an email to parents last Friday.

After meeting last Wednesday, Bernards Mayor Carolyn Gaziano said that the task force, made up of township and school district officials, was aiming to put up its report early this week on both the Bernards Township website and the Bernards school district website.

The task force went through "basically, everything," as far as examining options for improving traffic flow at the school, Gaziano said last week.

The report explains the task force member's reasoning for ideas eliminated, she said. She said the task force is leaning toward one of the options, "But we want the public's input first."

Also on Monday, the final winners in the Verizon App Challenge are expected to be announced. The App Challenge — to result in a team of professionals from Verizon and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology working with students to turn their application concepts into reality — is being hosted by the Verizon Foundation to encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Republicans to select candidate for Township Committee

The Republican Municipal Committee is due to screen candidates for one position this year available on the Township Committee, with the public event due to begin at 7 p.m. at the Liberty Corner Firehouse, 95 Church St., Liberty Corner.

The public is invited to interviews but not to final deliberations on selections of the candidate to endorse.

So far, Planning Board members Kevin Orr and Carol Bianchi have declared they will seek the GOP endorsement, but other candidates also were asked to apply.

The candidate would be in place of incumbent Township Committeeman Scott Spitzer, who announced earlier this year he would not seek re-election.
