Special Night Set For Special Children at Ridge Football Game

Ridge Touchdown Club organizes special attention at upcoming football game to welcome children with special needs and their parents.

The deadline is approaching for registering to be part of the Sept. 30 Ridge High Red Devils football team's evening to honor children with special needs. The children will receive free admission and other attention at the scheduled game against Phillipsburg High School, to begin at 7 p.m. that Friday.

The event was organized by the Ridge Touchdown Club.

The Red Devils team, the Ridge cheerleaders and Ridge marching ban all will host the evening for Bernards Parents of Exceptional Children (PEC) at Lee field at . On that night, Ridge will take on divisional rival Phillipsburg on Blackout Night.

The night will honor children with special needs by giving them free admission to the game, free RHS Football t-shirts, and free popcorn. The children also will get a chance to meet band members, cheerleaders and football players and to have preferred seating at the game.

Bernards PEC is a not-for-profit local organization that advocates for children with learning and developmental disabilities. The mission of Bernards PEC is to provide the support that families, educators, and community organizations need to help individuals with disabilities reach their full potential. They also strive to create an environment of understanding and acceptance for persons with disabilities within the community.

For more information and to get involved, PEC students and mentors should contact Karen Zubulake at zoobies500@yahoo.com to register.  The deadline to register is Friday, September 16.

Zubalake, vice president of programming for the PEC, said the date of the r.s.v.p. to give time to order shirts for children. But she said that special needs football fans, open to all ages, can attend with their families on the day of the game.
