Schools Close in Bernards, Somerset Hills in Bernardsville

Revision of Sunday night announcement of a delayed opening.

With thousands of households left without power in Basking Ridge and Liberty Corner, and also Bernardsville and the Somerset Hills School district, both school systems announced on Monday morning that they will be closed for the day.

The Bernards school website said the decision was due to hazardous road conditions left as a result of Saturday's storm. More than 2,900 households in Bernards Township, and more than 2,500 households in Bernardsville remained without power as of 7:16 a.m. on Monday. Other Somerset Hills towns also had hundreds of homes still without power following Saturday's storm.

The Somerset Hills regional school district also posted similar information about weather-related conditions in announcing on its website that the schools in Bernardsville will be closed on Monday.

Schools Superintendent Valerie Goger, and both websites, previously had announced two-hour delayed openings on Sunday night.

Attempts are being made to reschedule the that would have been held last Saturday, but was called off because of the snow and rain. Next weekend reportedly is being considered.
