IN SHORT

After giving up a run in the second, the infield turned a double play to end the inning. The Devils tied it up in the home frame of the second and looked strong.  But the Devils gave up two runs in the third and fought hard but could only muster a single run to counter in the inning.  Warren Hills scored its fourth run in the sixth. In the seventh inning, relief pitcher Greg Fazio struck out two, shutting down the Streaks. Things looked up in the seventh for a two-out rally when Brett Matzen reached second on an error. Fazio came to the plate looking to be the tying run. Fazio fought off pitch after pitch but lost the battle with a strikeout to end the game.

KEY PERFORMANCE

Jon Tam—Tam pitched six innings with three strikeouts and gave up 10 hits and one walk. Tam was 1-for-3 with a single.

THEY SAID IT

“We have been in a lot of tough ballgames and come out on the wrong side of them.  These guys deserve a lot of credit. They keep plugging away. There will be a day when we get the bats going and we will get more than five hits and two runs. When we add that to the defense and pitching performances like we had tonight and we will win some ball games. ” —Head coach Tom Blackwell
