William Annin Introduces New Assistant Principal: Mary Ehid

Ehid worked as a special education teacher at Annin since 1997.

With this summer's shuffle of assistant principals in the Bernards school district – William Annin Assistant Principal Scott Graber moved to take over for Thomas Liss as assistant principal of Oak Street School on July 1 – the newest assistant principal to join the ranks is recently promoted Annin teacher Mary Ehid.

Ehid will take over as assistant principal at the middle school, starting officially on Sept. 1 as part of a 10-month-per-year position earning $80,000.

Superintendent Valerie Goger introduced Ehid to the Board of Education at the July 26 meeting. Goger said, "She's been a wonderful special education teacher in the district since 1997."

Ehid has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Montclair College, and began her career with AT&T before transitioning to teacher. She went back to school while she was working, and later earned her masters degree in teaching from Montclair College, doing her student teaching at Oak Street School in Bernards.

After spending one year at Bridgewater High School, Ehid came back to Bernards permanently in 1997 as a teacher at William Annin Middle School.

Along with her years as a special education teacher at Annin, Ehid helped to develop the district's financial literacy course, and earned the distinction of being highly respected among her peers, according to Goger.

In regards to her new role, Ehid said, "I hope to help the kids be as successful as they can be." The new assistant principal said that she hopes to be easily accessible to students, teachers and parents, and continue the tradition of effective support provided by Annin administrators.

"As a teacher in the building, everything ran very smoothly," she said. "You saw that the administration supported teachers behind the scenes, and I would hopefully continue to support teachers in that way."

Asked about any new projects she would like to see the school work on, Ehid said, "What I'd like to see, and we're slowly working toward it, is to implement more further the positive behavior plan."

"The majority of our students make the right choices," she said. "We're looking to reward the right choices instead of focusing on the students who are making poor choices."

And for parents in the district, Ehid said, "I'm easy to talk to. They can call me up with nay concerns or questions regarding their child. I am a parent, and I understand things from their perspective. I would encourage them to reach out to me with any questions or concerns they might have."
