Barnstormers Top Patriots

Lancaster scored early, often in victory.

The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the 7-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.

Lancaster scored in the top of the first inning on an RBI base hit by Blake Gailen to give them a 1-0 lead.

Somerset answered right back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Corey Smith that scored Colin Curtis to make the score 1-1.

A solo homerun by Francisco Hernandez (5) in the top of the second inning allowed the Barnstormers to regain the lead 2-1.

The Patriots rallied to even the game up at two in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout by Curtis.

The Barnstormers scored again in the fifth inning to regain the lead for the second time on an RBI single by Gailen for the 3-2 advantage.

Travis Denker (5) drove a solo homerun over the center field wall, extending Lancaster’s lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth.

Smith drove an RBI triple to the right center field gap to bring home a run and cut the York lead to 4-3 in the bottom half of the inning.

The Barnstormers added to their lead in the eighth after Fehlandt Lentini scored on a wild pitch and Hernandez followed with a two run double to make the score 7-3.

Lancaster starter Alan Johnson (12-5) got the win after allowing three runs on six hits in five innings pitched.  Doug Arguello (6-5) suffered the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in six innings pitched.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season will continue on Tuesday night when the Patriots take on the Barnstormers at 7:05 pm.  The game includes a chance for all fans 21 years and older to Win $10,000.
