Basking Ridge Players Compete in Sweet Laxin' Event

Teams of lacrosse players from fourth grade through high school from throughout the area, including Basking Ridge, braved the heat to participate in the 2012 Sweet Laxin' boys lacrosse tournament held this weekend at numerous locations in Bridgewater.

Along with local teams from Bridgewater, the elementary, middle school and players from Bernards Township, Madison, Clinton, Summit and Kinnelon and others, teams from Long Island, N.Y., Maryland, and Pennsylvania also took part in the competition.

The teams in played games that started Friday evening, continued through the weekend heat and finally finished Sunday afternoon.

Teams played 50-minute games with each playing five games over the weekend. Games were played at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, Bridgewater Middle School and Duke Island Park.

The Ridge team ended the weekend 4-1, while the 13 year olds (seventh graders) lost in the finals to the Red and Black team from Hunterdon County. Ridge head lacrosse coach Ken Marsh was on hand to work with players and coaches from the sidelines.

The tournament proceeds go to the development of a turf lacrosse facility in Bridgewater.
