Tournament to Celebrate Rink Reopening, Support Ridge Hockey

Fundraiser set for three age brackets of hockey fans, ranging from college age to elementary school.

The long-closed roller hockey rink at Harry Dunham Park is open again for play this month — and a combination celebration of the final reopening, along with a fundraiser for Ridge High School ice hockey, has been scheduled for June 15.

The Ridge Ice Hockey Association has announced a roller hockey tournament on that Saturday, with a rain date of Sunday, June 16, at the newly renovated Harry Dunham roller hockey rink in Basking Ridge.

Those who wish to participate are asked to download and by June 1 mail in forms available on the Ridge Ice Hockey website (www.ridgehockey.net) under the tab called “Summer Stix." The age categories will range from college players to elementary school children, and the event is open to players from all area towns.

The exact times for the teams of 5 on 5, each with seven or eight players, including a goalie, will be announced after final sign-ups are tallied, according to information from Ridge Ice Hockey.

The tournament will be arranged with three age brackets; a high school and college bracket, a middle school bracket and an elementary school bracket.

The entry fee is $40 per player, and all funds raised will benefit Ridge Ice Hockey Association, “RIHA," a 501(c)(3) public charity, according to the website.

The funds raised go to pay for ice time and other necessary items for the Ridge High School ice hockey program, according to information from the association.

The roller hockey rink was closed three years ago this summer while township officials explored financing and several options for how to best resurface the cracking surface of the rink. The . A final surface was placed on the facility in April.
