What is a Gran Fondo?Gran Fondos are long distance, mass-participation cycling rides – not races – that are immensely popular in Italy and more recently in the United States. Gran Fondo means long distance or big ride, in Italian. Participation is open to recreational and competitive amateur cyclists. Cyclists who participate in Grand Fondos are highly motivated and tend to be socially responsible.What is Gran Fondo NJ?The RideAll riders will depart from the start/finish line adjacent to the Morristown Green. There will be three distance options; 30 miles, 62 miles and 100 miles. The 100-mile ride will go through Morris County, part of Somerset County and Hunterdon County. The mid-point will be Milford, New Jersey. Gran Fondo NJ will include five rest stops and four timed hill climbs. The ride will benefit several local charitable organizations, such as Homeless Solutions, The Seeing Eye and Grow it Green Morristown.The WeekendGran Fondo NJ, a full weekend of family programming geared toward sustainability-minded cyclists and non-cyclists, alike, will begin on Friday, August 26, and continue through the end of race day on Sunday, August 28. Gran Fondo weekend will be an experience all its own, featuring activities that include the Gran Fondo Expo at the Hyatt Morristown, sustainable gardening demonstrations, a schedule of family-friendly entertainment and a variety of thematic rides throughout the Morris County area. Saturday’s “Kid Fondo” will give the families of cyclists the opportunity to experience the exhilaration and sense of achievement that riding brings to millions of active Americans today. Gran Fondo Weekend will also give attendees the opportunity to explore the area’s rich historical and cultural landmarks, as well as its top notch restaurants and shopping opportunities. Special Gran Fondo NJ Weekend rates will be offered by our official host hotel, Hyatt Morristown, to allow families from near and far to make the most of this exciting adventure, the first of its kind in the Garden State.
