EVENTS: Indoors Activities, Some Cultural and Some Energetic

Things for kids and adults to do in the midst of winter.

This coming week, both adults and children can find lots of things to do in the area to divert them with winter activities or events to stimulate the mind and entertain.

And hey, there's always skiing, even without snow!

"Protecting Our Waters and Our Lands"
When/Where: Art exhibit on display any open hours at the Bernardsville Public Library, 1 Anderson Hill Road in Bernardsville, and at Studio 7 Fine Art Gallery in Bernardsville, with the show to last at both locations through Jan. 27.
Why Go: To view scenes from the Great Swamp in Basking Ridge and beyond as portrayed by 25 artists from the Somerset Hills, Morris County and other areas of the state in multiple medium, and to honor one of our natural wonders. 
Cost: Free


Youth Dodge Ball League
When/Where: Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting next Tues., Jan. 17, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the on Mount Airy Road in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To blow off some energy if you're ages 15 to 18, a member or not, and get to hang out with others your age in a fun environment.

Introduction to Cross Country Skiing
When/Where:
 Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 190 Lord Stirling Road, Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Snow or no, family and friends (age 10 years and older) will learn the basics of cross-country skiing including clothing, equipment, preconditioning, safety, and places to ski.
Cost: $11, 908-766-2489.

Music for Children With Special Needs, Ages 4 to 10
When/Where: Saturday from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at the Bernards Township Library, 32 S. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge. Must be accompanied by an adult.
Why Go: Join Ann Wild for an interactive musical program for those children with special needs. Registration online.
Cost: Free

Live Entertainment at The Ridge Tavern
When/Where: Starting at 8 p.m. at The Ridge Tavern, 55 S. Finley Ave. in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Why sit home when you can have a bite, raise a pint and have a little entertainment right nearby?
Cost: Free

"Damn Yankees"
When/Where: Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Raritan Valley Community College.
Why Go: To see a great play about baseball in the midst of football and basketball season. And did we mention the play won many awards when it was on Broadway?
Cost: $37 and $47, depending on seat locations


When/Where: Saturday at 1 p.m. at the 
Why Go: Kids can relax in your PJs, make some dragon crafts and meet dragon puppet "Hermione" as she recites some of her favorite dragon stories.
Cost: $3 admission per participant and regular admission for all others.


When/Where: Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Madison Public Library 
Why Go: Find out what happens when dry ice meets snow, and more during the Mad Science presentation.
Cost: Free


When/Where: Sunday at 2 p.m. at  in Madison.
Why Go: Learn how a comic book is made from longtime DC and Marvel Comics artist Mark McKenna.

Why Go: You want a little more funny in your life.

Why Go: You want to hear a live band performing covers from the 70s to today while enjoying a beer or three.
