EVENTS: Turkey Trot, 'My Sister Eileen,' Photo Show, More

UPDATE: Photo exhibit and sale at the Farmstead Arts extended to Dec. 18.

This weekend, you can take in a little local theater and run off some excess energy (or calories) at the annual "Turkey Trot" on Sunday morning.

The 5K run and 1-mile health walk for all ages, which benefits the Parent-Teacher Organization, will be held from the township's Mountain Park off Martinsville Road, by Mountain Road.

Basking Ridge Pediatrics and Dental Associates of Basking Ridge are co-sponsors. Awards will be given to overall male and female and top three runners in each age group in increments of 10 years for ages 10 through 70.

Entrants are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food to give to the FoodBank Network of Somerset County. The health walk begins at 9:30 a.m., the 5K run is at 10 a.m., and check-in begins at 8:45 a.m.

UPDATE: The Photography 11 exhibit and sale at the Farmstead Arts in the township has been extended to weekend hours through Dec. 18, due to a slow start because of the Oct. 29 snowstorm. See details below.

When/Where: The Ridge Drama Club's production of this 1940s-era comedy will be staged this Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Because having young people revive this classic play makes it both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. Reasonably priced drama with a professional-level set
Cost: $8 for adults and senior citizens, $10 for adults. Thursday's final dress rehearsal open to senior citizens for free.

Turkey Trot
When/Where: Check in for this 5K run and 1-mile health walk is 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at Mountain Park on Martinsville Road by Mountain Road in Basking Ridge. The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K run leaves the gate at 10 a.m.
Why Go: All ages can stretch their legs one way or another the weekend before stuffing themselves on Thanksgiving. The run benefits the William Annin Middle School PTO. Participants are asked to bring non-perishable goods to donate to the FoodBank Network of Somerset County.
Cost: Preregistration $20, $25 on day of race


When/Where: A display of 125 flags dedicated to area veterans has been placed on the front lawn of the Bernards Township at 1 Collyer Lane in Basking Ridge. The arrangment, coordinated by the Bernards Township Beautification Task Force, will continue 24/7 through Nov. 19.
Why Go: Because it makes you stop and think of the contributions from those to whom these flags are dedicated. It's also an awesome display of flags, put up by volunteer adults and kids.
Cost: Free

UPDATE: Photography 11 Exhibit
Where/When: The monthlong exhibit and sale featuring 28 area photographers will continue on weekends through Dec. 18 at the center at 650 King George Road in Basking Ridge. The show, originally scheduled to last through Nov. 27, has been extended to continue from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Why Go: To view and possibly purchase works by some of the area's most talented photographers.

Somerset County 4-H Association Vendor & Crafter Sale
Where/When:
Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension on Milltown Road in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To go to your one-stop shopping place at the 4-H for its annual vendor and craft sale with more than 40 local crafters and other vendors. Participating vendors include Silpada Designs, PartyLite, Pampered Chef, Longaberger, Tastefully Simple, Usborne Books, anddoTerra.
Cost: Prices determined by the vendors.

Murder Mystery Dinner
Where/When:
Saturday at 7 p.m. at Maggiano's Little Italy on Commons Way in the Bridgewater Commons Mall.
Why Go: Because murder is in the air for the restaurant's special dinner that will take guests back to the 1950s for an "American Grandstand" episode. The show will also feature a full-course dinner.
Cost: $70 a person.

Temple Sholom Gift Fair
Where/When:
Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Preschool Place and Kindergarten on North Bridge Street in Bridgewater.
Why Go: Because it's time to buy those Hanukkah gifts, and the temple's sisterhood will be offering all kinds of items, including jewelry, handbags and kitchen gadgets.
Cost: Prices depends on items.


When/Where: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 7 p.m. at Montgomery High School.            
Why Go: It’s a family-friendly version of the motion picture that’s meant to entertain everyone.
Cost: $10

When/Where: Friday 7 p.m. at the .
Why Go: Because it’s an exercise program that combines dance moves with high-energy music. And you’ll secure a spot in the 4-week series at the library.
